Your Support Action Plan

Tips from WSPS Consultants

  • Find ways to actively involve your employees in every step of the process. Set parameters so employees know where their contributions will be best valued, and focus on doing things with people rather than to them.
  • It’s helpful to begin by establishing basic supports. As your program and organization matures, you can then move on to enhanced options. Some initial supports to consider include helpline numbers (such as those provided by Crisis Services Canada), accommodations for persons with disabilities, emergency plans for critical events, incident reporting and investigation processes, debriefing sessions for critical event stress and training programs such as Mental Health First Aid or those offered through The Working Mind.

Potential Action Items

Purchase EFAP Services

Consider putting an EFAP program in place if financially possible. Alternatively, consider promoting Wellness Together Canada. Establish a comprehensive communications and education plan to inform all employees on when and how to access EFAP. Emphasize the benefit of early access as a prevention step.

Plan for Crises

Develop a crisis management plan to respond to crises and communicate the plan to your employees. During the planning phase, identify types of crises, what to do, what to say and who to report to.

Focus on Program Evaluation

Establish a basic evaluation process that outlines how programs should be evaluated above and beyond simply employee satisfaction. Be clear on what specific KPBs a program or policy is meant to impact, as well as which key performance metrics will be impacted.
